After monitoring parking decal sales and parking stalls throughout campus, Director of Parking and Transportation Services Issac Astill adjusted parking in certain areas Monday morning to make more room for commuters, specifically in Residential West. 

After monitoring parking decal sales and parking stalls throughout campus, Director of Parking and Transportation Services Issac Astill adjusted parking in certain areas Monday morning to make more room for commuters, specifically in Residential West.
"We had dedicated over 1,500 stalls for those residential permits," Astill said. "We've only sold 991 as of Monday morning."
Astill decided to make the changes when the permit sales weren't as he'd originally expected.

Oxford restaurants on the Square were certainly not singing the blues Saturday night.  Many were hosting free blues performances as part of the third annual Oxford Blues Festival.  With the music, came fans.

“The Oxford Blues Festival brings out a lot of blues enthusiasts that otherwise wouldn’t necessarily come out.  It gives a new type of business,” said Chelsey Pearman, manager of Soulshine Pizza.

The IntoxBox is a wall-mounted, touchscreen machine that has the capability to measure a patron’s blood alcohol content.

Rooster’s Blues House and the Burgundy Room above Old Venice Pizza Co. are the first two homes of the IntoxBox.

In August 2012, journalism senior Elizabeth Beaver will start her job as editor-in-chief of The Ole Miss 2013. She finished the 2011-12 yearbook as design editor and was a photographer for The Ole Miss 2011.

Every year, the yearbook staff develops The Ole Miss over a span of eight months. The fall semester is spent developing story ideas and figuring out what activities need to be covered and what is urgent.

“This is definitely one of the better-attended shows,” said Jonathan Whitmire, front-of-the-house manager of the Ford Center. “And it’s just a large show in general with the number of trucks, the set and the costumes. So it’s one of the bigger shows of the season for sure.”

“We have over 10,000 square feet of meeting space, and on some days we use all of it in one day, sometimes up to five different groups in house,” said Pablo Corona, director of sales at The Inn. “These groups can consist of maybe 300 for dinner, 60 for a meeting and 20 for a seminar.

The Oxford Film Festival has entertained citizens of Oxford for nearly a decade, and this year, the OFF crew is asking for more involvement from the festival-goers — particularly from those in fraternities and sororities at the University of Mississippi.
The film festival will kick off its ninth season at The Lyric tonight and spend the rest of the weekend at the Oxford Malco theater. Those in charge are looking to the Greeks to take a bigger part in this year’s festival.

With the fall semester wrapping up and finals about to begin, the Ole Miss bookstore has started renovations. The renovations will last four to five weeks and should be finished before the start of the spring semester.
“Now is the perfect time since school is about to let out,” bookstore manager Kristie Whitehead said.
The renovations will include an increase in clothing and convenience. Also, the café on the second floor will be expanded and more seating will be available.

In the past few months, Subway, Toss It Up and other healthier dining options have come to The University of Mississippi, but some still do not think it is enough.

Students looking for a quick meal or snack on campus have plenty of options between the food court in the Student Union, coffee shops and the numerous vending machines in major buildings, but some students think there are not as many healthy eating options compared to unhealthy options.

The Ole Miss Bookstore has been praised and shunned by students recently, but until yesterday students had no way to express their feelings about the establishment other than old-fashioned complaining to the manager.

Ole Miss Bookstore brand ambassador Ashley D. Ball was in the bookstore Monday offering students a chance to get a free cup of coffee, while voicing their opinions about the bookstore at the same time.

“We want to change the perception people have of the bookstore here,” she said.

After plastering students with stickers of support, constant handouts of flyers and rallies of support on every corner of campus, the winners will take their stand in front of thousands of screaming fans on Nov 12.

For some students, this moment is the end of the homecoming court’s journey.

To keep up with the rising cost of college tuition, University Parking Services are following suit with a $15 increase in on-campus parking decals.

Linda Christian, manager of University Parking Services, announced this past week that the prices of decals will go up for the first time since 2007. Commuter and residence hall decals will increase from $60 to $75, and an additional or replacement decal for another car will be raised from $10 to $15.

The University Police Department has announced that there will be continued work on the roads this summer, and this week they will begin painting lines back on the roads.

The project, which is being coordinated by the physical plant office, is being started up to put center lines, perpendicular lines, parking places and crosswalks back on roads that were repaved over the summer.

Early Friday morning, 1,096 avid Harry Potter fans made their way to Oxford’s Malco Theater for the midnight premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: part 2,” the eighth and final movie of the Harry Potter series. Tickets to the premiere sold out earlier in the week.
