Mississippi has a lot of dubious distinctions to its credit. The Magnolia State has the highest rate of teen pregnancy and is also the poorest state in the Union. And if all goes according to plan, the state is in line to earn another dishonorable title as the only state in the country without an abortion clinic.

Gov. Phil Bryant will soon sign into law House Bill 1390, effectively removing the ability to perform abortions from all but one doctor in Mississippi.
Mississippi House Bill 1390 amends the Mississippi Code of 1972 § 41-75-1. Title 41 dictates the area of public health and chapter 75 governs ambulatory surgical facilities. Section 1 of this chapter delineates definitions important for the implementation of these statutes.

These women are both young and old, single and married. Though they may be from different backgrounds, every woman who has taken the Pill has one thing in common: She is taking a rational and responsible approach to her sexual health and family planning.

Believe it or not, an election is coming up in November, and on the ballot is Amendment 26, a state-wide initiative that would redefine a “person” as “every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the functional equivalent thereof.” If you are almost anyone in the state, you probably think this is just fine and dandy - after all, all lives are precious, and who do women think they are to play God with the lives of their children?
