Each year the award is given to a faculty member who shows dedication in providing assistance to others. Warren also serves as an academic adviser for pre-pharmacy

A program that allows Mississippi residents to turn in unused or unneeded prescription medication was the first of what officials hope to be a series of programs designed to reduce the availability of prescription drugs for illegal use, according to a recent press release.

The University of Mississippi’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs updated a campus policy on Feb. 15.
The Requiring Student Research Participation policy, which is strictly enforced on Ole Miss’ campus, states that, “course syllabi cannot mandate or unduly influence research subject participation.”
“It should have no effect,” Tom Lombardo, the director of research integrity and compliance in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, said.
He said he believes that the policy is well-written and functional.

On the shelves of our pharmacies and retail stores sit a variety of weight loss programs and pills promising results that only the fat-loss fairy could deliver. And as far as I know, she popped some fen-phen, got a huge settlement and disappeared years ago.

Mahmoud ElSohly and his colleagues are changing the future of marijuana through analysis of seized samples from the illegal market and are creating samples that accurately portray products on the illicit marijuana market through their work for the National Center For Natural Product Research at the University of Mississippi. 

These experiments have allowed them to create new medical products that can be beneficial to cancer patients.

The Oxford Board of Aldermen passed a proposed ordinance last week that prohibits the use, purchase, possession, distribution, sale or offering for sale of synthetic cocaine.

The Oxford Board of Aldermen passed a proposed ordinance last week that prohibits the use, purchase, possession, distribution, sale or offering for sale of synthetic cocaine.

The city’s ordinance is just a small addition to what the state has already done to combat the spread of synthetic drugs.

In August 2010, Mississippi became one of at least 20 states that made the selling and possession of known synthetic drugs illegal.

The annual Winfield and Rachel Cotton lecture was held Tuesday afternoon at the Thad Cochran Research Center. This year’s guest lecturer was Dr. Kenneth I. Kaitin, director and research professor at Tufts Center for Study of Drug Development in Boston.

The main focus of Kaitin’s presentation was the status of the pharmaceutical industry and drug research and development.
