I want to discuss my breathing habit with you today.
It’s OK to admit it if you are still too proud to meditate — I was not long ago. “Give me one good reason to sit cross-legged for half an hour of my busy day,” I contested. “What can I gain by sitting still?”
Studies into meditative habits have revealed that participants show an increase in the “relaxing” alpha waves produced by the brain and report decreased feelings of depression and anxiety.

This piece, however, takes a look at the physical and psychological benefits of a holistic approach to health that has been in existence for more than 3,000 years.

Yoga, a practice classified as a “Complementary and Alternative Medicine” by the National Institutes of Health, was championed by Catherine Woodyard, a UM exercise science professor who practices and promotes yoga due to its healing benefits.

Well, our semester is now in full swing. Papers are due, tests are coming up and group presentations have been scheduled. If you’re like me, you’ve also got multiple meetings scheduled during the week, dinner dates, interviews, sporting events, service projects and more meetings.

I’m not in a fraternity, so I can only imagine how crazy my life would be if Greek life was thrown into the mix as well.

Meditation is often thought of as a practice belonging solely to Eastern religions. However, most religions have some form of meditation practice.
Today, there is evidence of meditation being a healthy practice for all, especially those of us who are overwhelmed by school and work.  
To meditate, one must simply clear his or her mind, breathe deeply and relax; it’s about learning to focus on the present instead of living in the past or the future.
There are many different forms of meditation.
