I have started reading Joyce the last couple weeks and started to notice subtle changes in how I wrote down ideas and carried on conversations with other people. These changes grew less and less subtle, so I visited a retired professor and drinking buddy to talk about how an author can shift our point of view. I walked in through his office and noticed shelves of books written by and on Edgar Allan Poe. Sometimes he goes out of town to give or listen to lectures on Poe. We tease each other about what the other one does.

A lot of people, myself included, scoffed at the idea of rebooting the Spider-Man franchise so quickly. After all, it's only been five years since "Spider-Man 3," and even though that movie was 50 shades of awful, it still made a boatload of money and all signs pointed toward a fourth film. For whatever reason, that never happened and now we've got "The Amazing Spider-Man."

A new chain of “schools” called Wands & Things are scheduled to open in select cities across the country (New York and Los Angeles first, of course) on July 16 to commemorate the last Harry Potter film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” which premieres the day before.

The curriculum promises to train the average individual to become a wizard in 10 days or your money back.

Summer has always meant three things to me: humidity, watermelon and Oxford Shakespeare Festival.

Shakespeare festivals are a popular summer commodity for starving artists to find employment for two to three months of fast rehearsals and long runs. Families across the country pack the outdoor theaters to listen to the melodic and poetic script and get a glimpse of what the theatrical world was like in Elizabethan times.

Well, I don’t actually own a wand, but I was definitely there.

My sister and I were part of the first 200 people inside the park.

We got a behind-the-scenes tour, and we were there for the grand opening ceremony.

It was an incredible experience, but the park itself is surreal. There is no other word to describe it.

Phenomenal, intriguing, exciting, and comical are only a few words I could use to describe of the cast performing “The Merry Wives of Windsor” during the Oxford Shakespeare Festival.

The audience was filled with laughter as the cast portrayed the day-to-day life of William Shakespeare’s era.
