McCalla is having a career season offensively. She has scored a Southeastern Conference-leading 10 goals through 11 games this season. Her goal total for this year has already doubled her total from the 2011 season, when she only netted five goals. McCalla leads the SEC not only in goals, but also in points (23), points per game (2.09) and game-winning goals (4). There are nine more conference games left for her to improve on all these statistical marks.

Ole Miss is the lone Southeastern Conference team that has yet to play a conference opponent. That changes Saturday, when the Rebels head to Tuscaloosa to take on the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN. 

After suffering a torn labrum during fall camp, sophomore wide receiver Collins Moore returned to action against Texas, but hauled in his first catch of the season against Tulane this past Saturday. 

As a freshman last year, South African Nik Scholtz finished the year ranked No. 14 in the NCAA in singles. His first opponent in the Davis Cup in Montreal, Canada, Milos Raonic, was ranked No. 15 in the world. Raonic won the match 7-5, 6-4, 7-5, but for the reigning Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, the experience is what he will take from the event.

The minor league baseball season has come to an end with 17 former Rebels on minor league rosters. The Daily Mississippian’s Tyler Bischoff gives an update on how each of the 17 guys did this year.

NEW ORLEANS — Ole Miss surpassed its win total from last season and bounced back from the previous week’s 66-31 loss to Texas with a 39-0 win against Tulane in New Orleans this past Saturday. 

NEW ORLEANS — After giving up 66 points and 676 total yards to Texas, the Ole Miss defense bounced back and held Tulane to 159 yards of total offense, including just 14 yards on the ground, in a 39-0 win on Saturday.

In front of a crowd of 662, the Ole Miss Lady Rebel volleyball team (7-5, 1-2 SEC) defeated Mississippi State (4-8, 0-3 SEC), 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-23, 25-12) and earned its first Southeastern Conference win of the season on Friday night at the Gillom Sports Center. 

NEW ORLEANS — Coming off a disappointing 66-31 loss to Texas this past week, Ole Miss bounced back in a big way in a 39-0 win against Tulane in New Orleans on Saturday, the Rebels’ first shutout since a 45-0 win against Mississippi State in 2008.

When Ole Miss plays Tulane in New Orleans Saturday, more than football will be on the minds of both teams. 

There is only one more nonconference game on the schedule for Ole Miss, and the Rebels (0-2) are hoping to take full advantage of it heading into Southeastern Conference play. The Rebels will take on Tulane (0-2) Saturday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

After finishing a six-game home stand with a record of 5-1, the Ole Miss women’s soccer team begins a four-game road trip starting at No. 15 Missouri tonight before heading to Alabama on Sunday afternoon. 

After disappointing road trips to Southeastern Conference newcomers Texas A&M and Missouri, the Lady Rebels (6-5, 0-2 SEC) look for their first conference win when they take on in-state rival Mississippi State (4-7, 0-2) tonight at 7 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center. 

Ole Miss was back outside for practice Wednesday after spending Tuesday in the Indoor Practice Facility as they prepare to head to New Orleans to take on the Tulane Green Wave (0-2) on Saturday in the Rebels’ first road game of the season.

After playing two different positions earlier during his time at Ole Miss — quarterback and wide receiver — senior Randall Mackey has found a new home at running back this season. It’s been a long process from where he started to now, but at running back, Mackey is finally starting to see the results he had hoped for.

Ole Miss went back to work Tuesday afternoon in the Indoor Practice Facility after suffering its first loss of the season to Texas 66-31 this past Saturday.

Jonas Lutjen, a senior member of the Ole Miss tennis team from Schessel, Germany, got off to a hot start in his final year. He recently captured the Southern Intercollegiate singles title in Athens, Ga. The tournament included more than 128 participants, with many SEC schools represented. Lutjen was 6-0 during the event, only dropping one set.

With the Texas game behind them, Ole Miss and head coach Hugh Freeze have turned their attention to Saturday’s upcoming game against Tulane — which will be Freeze’s first road contest at the helm. 

It’s hard enough to make an impact as a true freshman, but it’s that much harder in the Southeastern Conference.
