The Ole Miss Lady Rebel basketball program will look to continue its successful start to the 2012-13 campaign when they take on Northwestern State Friday morning at Tad Smith Coliseum in the 10th annual “Kid’s Day” game. All local students — eighth grade and under — and bus drivers will be admitted into the game for free.

Thousands of freshmen packed Tad Smith Coliseum Thursday night for their first event as the Class of 2016 at Freshman Convocation. 

Thousands of freshmen packed Tad Smith Coliseum Thursday night for their first event as the Class of 2016 at Freshman Convocation. The freshmen filled an entire half of the coliseum all dressed in their best attire. Programs were given out by members of The Columns Society who also ushered students to their seats. The University of Mississippi Faculty Brass Quintet provided the music for the evening. The welcome was given by Dean of Students Thomas “Sparky” Reardon. He announced the processional for all of the schools at the university.

Coming off a brutal road trip at Kentucky and Tennessee, the Ole Miss men’s basketball team (15-12, 5-8 SEC) returns to the friendly confines of the Tad Smith Coliseum Saturday when they host the streaking LSU Tigers (17-10, 7-6 SEC). The Rebels have struggled in recent weeks, losing three in a row and five of their last six games after a 73-60 loss at Tennessee Wednesday.

Coming off two tough road losses at No. 7 Kentucky and Florida this past week, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-12, 2-8 SEC) returns home and hosts Alabama (10-14, 0-10 SEC) tonight. 

Coming off two tough road losses at No. 7 Kentucky and Florida this past week, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-12, 2-8 SEC) returns home and hosts Alabama (10-14, 0-10 SEC) tonight.

In their first meeting this season, the Lady Rebels won 69-55 in Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss had their best offensive performance of the season, shooting a season-best 66.7 percent from the field. The Lady Rebels have lost the six games since and look to snap that losing streak and get back to their winning ways.

When the Rebels (14-8, 4-4 SEC) travel to Starkville tonight to take on the 18th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs (18-5, 5-3), they will try to return to Oxford with their first season sweep of their in-state rival since 1998. 

The two teams last played on Jan. 18 with Ole Miss pulling the upset 75-68 in Oxford. In that win, junior forward Reginald Buckner scored a career-high 19 points to go along with 15 rebounds, and three other players scored in double figures for the Rebels.

 

When the Rebels (14-8, 4-4 SEC) travel to Starkville tonight to take on the 18th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs (18-5, 5-3), they will try to return to Oxford with their first season sweep of their in-state rival since 1998.

The Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-10; 2-7 SEC) came into Sunday’s game on a three-game losing streak and was in need of an offensive spark. The Lady Rebels (12-10, 2-7 SEC) continued their slide with a 67-54 loss to Auburn (11-11, 3-6 SEC) on Sunday at the Tad Smith Coliseum. Ole Miss had another disappointing offensive performance, shooting just 32.7 percent (17-for-52) from the field and 22.2 percent (2-for-9) from three-point range, while also turning the ball over 16 times and being out-rebounded 40-32.

The Ole Miss men’s basketball team will look to take down its second ranked opponent in two weeks, as the 13th-ranked Florida Gators visit Oxford to take on the Rebels tonight. Ole Miss (13-6, 3-2 SEC) is coming off back-to-back wins over Mississippi State and Georgia this past week. 

This season, the Rebels have defended their home court at the Tad Smith Coliseum with a perfect 8-0 record. After a 67-56 loss to Tennessee in its Southeastern Conference opener, Florida (15-4, 3-1 SEC) has rattled off three straight wins. However, the Gators are also just 1-4 on the road this season.

Sparked by the return of junior Murphy Holloway, the Rebels bounced back from a disappointing 81-55 loss at LSU with a 71-63 win over Arkansas Wednesday night. 

Ole Miss improves to 11-5 and 1-1 in Southeastern Conference play, while Arkansas falls to 12-4 and 1-1. The Rebels also remain perfect at home with a 7-0 record at Tad Smith Coliseum.

The Ole Miss men’s basketball team began their Christmas break Saturday afternoon and continued their winning ways with an 80-56 victory over Mississippi Valley State. Saturday’s win pushes the Rebels’ record to 8-1 for the season.

Freshman guard LaDarius White, who made his first appearance as a Rebel, gave the Rebels an 18-16 lead and the Rebels never looked back. White scored a game-high 16 points. He hit six of 12 shots from the field, including four from three-point range and added six rebounds and four assists.
