Recently, the University of Mississippi received a “green light” rating for its permission of free speech on campus, the highest of honors awarded.

Ole Miss has always been a university that promotes free speech on campus. Its new rating comes from the changing of a technical term in order to bring clarity of policies to students and faculty alike.
Assistant Dean of Students Scott Wallace was a driving force behind the adaptation.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the University of Mississippi two-strike policy installment for alcohol and drug violations by the Office of the Dean of Students.
Since 2006, when the policy began, 31 students have been suspended from the university, 13 for drug violations and 18 for alcohol violations. Twenty-four of them have become eligible to return.

The Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter at the University of Mississippi is serving an interim suspension while they are under investigation, the reason for which is unknown.
The fraternity is not allowed to hold any parties at their house or hold any event while the investigation is ongoing. Associate Dean of Students Scott Wallace explained an interim suspension is fairly routine for any Greek fraternity or sorority if they are in the process of being investigated.

The University of Mississippi took a moment to honor these men and women who sacrificed for us with its annual Veterans Day ceremony in the Paris-Yates Chapel. The event consisted of the University Men’s Glee choir and a guest speaker, Rhea Tannehill Jr.

Four years ago this month, University administrators began implementing the current two-strike alcohol and drug policy the University of Mississippi still enforces.

Four years ago this month, University administrators began implementing the current two-strike alcohol and drug policy the University of Mississippi still enforces.

The policy states that if a student is found in violation of the school’s alcohol or drug policy, he or she is issued a strike and therefore put on a probationary period. If the same student receives another strike within the probationary period, he or she is suspended from the University for the remainder of the current semester as well as the following fall or spring semester.
