For the first time all season, Alabama trailed when Ole Miss took a 7-6 lead early in the second quarter. The Crimson Tide rebounded and went on to win 33-14 over the Rebels to remain undefeated.

The Crimson Tide had another dominant outing last week, defeating Florida Atlantic 40-7. Alabama looks like the team to beat in the SEC.

It was a lot closer than most anticipated, but LSU got a road win at Auburn 12-10. Offense once again appears to be a question mark going forward for the Tigers.

Ten teams entered Hoover, Ala., with different aspirations, but not everyone got what they were looking for as Mississippi State came away with the SEC Tournament championship with a 3-0 win over Vanderbilt.

Ole Miss, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt entered the SEC Tournament with hopes of improving their NCAA tournament stock, while Florida, LSU and South Carolina wanted to make a good showing without getting anyone hurt before regional play begins.

The No. 16 Ole Miss women’s tennis team will defend its home court this weekend in a pair of Southeastern Conference matches against No. 23 Vanderbilt (13-7, 5-3 SEC) and Kentucky (8-11, 0-8 SEC). The Rebels (13-7, 5-3 SEC) are coming off a solid road trip in which they defeated Arkansas (6-1) and LSU (6-1).

With the 2011 regular season behind them, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-17, 2-14 SEC) looks ahead to this weekend and the SEC Tournament in Nashville. 

 

With the 2011 regular season behind them, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-17, 2-14 SEC) looks ahead to this weekend and the SEC Tournament in Nashville. The Lady Rebels will be the No. 12 seed and play No. 5 seed Arkansas (21-7, 10-6 SEC) in the first round on Thursday. The winner of the Ole Miss/Arkansas game will play the fourth-seeded LSU Tigers (20-9, 10-6 SEC) on Friday.

The Rebels (9-15, 5-11 SEC) take on two ranked Southeastern Conference opponents, No. 15 Tennessee (22-3, 14-1 SEC) and No. 18 Kentucky (22-4, 13-2 SEC). The Rebels will honor their two senior players, Morgan Springer and Regina Thomas.

Andy Kennedy’s Ole Miss men’s basketball team was picked to finish 7th in the Southeastern Conference in a voting by a select panel of both SEC and national media members, the SEC announced Monday. 

The Kentucky men’s basketball team was picked to win the SEC this year, earning 18 of the 23 first-place votes. Vanderbilt, who was picked second, earned four first-place votes, followed by Florida, who also earned a first-place vote.

Birmingham, Ala. — Senior defender Meredith Snow has been named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, the SEC announced Monday morning.
Snow helped lead Ole Miss to wins over Vanderbilt (3-0) and Kentucky (2-1 OT) last week. She scored the third goal in a 3-0 win against Vanderbilt while anchoring a shutout against the Commodores.

Snow also helped the team to a 2-1 overtime win on the road at Kentucky. This season Snow is serving as a team captain and has recorded two goals while helping the Rebels to six shutouts on the year.

The season has not quite panned out as expected for the Ole Miss Rebel volleyball team. The Rebels (5-8, 1-4 SEC) have struggled thus far and ride a three-match losing streak heading into Sunday’s match against Mississippi State (6-7, 1-3 SEC).

After splitting with LSU and Arkansas at home to start SEC play, Ole Miss has lost three straight conference matches on the road, most recently Wednesday night at Alabama.

The Ole Miss softball team and University of South Carolina track and field athlete Louis Day have been named recipients of the fourth annual SEC Sportsmanship Award, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced Wednesday.  The winners will be forwarded for nomination to the NCAA for its national sportsmanship awards, to be announced in July.

The two were chosen by a vote of the SEC directors of athletics.

One year ago, the Ole Miss women’s tennis team found itself heading into postseason play as one of the hottest teams in the Southeastern Conference.

One year ago, the Ole Miss women’s tennis team found itself heading into postseason play as one of the hottest teams in the Southeastern Conference.

By the end of the 2010 SEC regular season, the Rebels had claimed the program’s first-ever SEC West Championship and entered the SEC Tournament as the tournament’s No. 2 overall seed.

A year later, the Ole Miss women enter this year’s conference tournament as the No. 8 seed.

Ole Miss defeated the storied Kentucky Wildcats basketball program once this season, but couldn't do it again Friday at the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Atlanta. 

Ole Miss defeated the storied Kentucky Wildcats basketball program once this season, but couldn't do it again Friday at the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Atlanta. 

The Rebels  (20-13) hung tough with the No. 15 Wildcats (23-8), and trailed by only two points with less than two minutes remaining in the game, but Kentucky pushed through for the 75-66 victory in the contests waning moments.

After going 1-1 during the opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play, the Ole Miss women’s tennis team (6-3, 1-1 SEC) hosts a pair of SEC West opponents this weekend.

After going 1-1 during the opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play, the Ole Miss women’s tennis team (6-3, 1-1 SEC) hosts a pair of SEC West opponents this weekend.

This afternoon, the Lady Netters try to get their second conference win of the season when they welcome LSU (3-6, 1-1 SEC) to the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the Rebels host No. 14 Arkansas (11-4, 1-1 SEC).
While the Tigers’ record might seem lackluster, they are coming off an impressive 4-0 shutout of then No. 27 South Carolina.

The Ole Miss basketball team got exactly what it needed Tuesday evening.

The Ole Miss basketball team got exactly what it needed Tuesday evening.

Andy Kennedy’s team secured its biggest win of the season, and perhaps its biggest win in several seasons, by defeating the No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats in thrilling fashion at the Tad Pad.

But that’s over. As great as the win was – and it was great for Ole Miss basketball as a program – it’s only one game, and the Rebels must move on.

The Ole Miss basetball team begins the regular season tonight at 7 p.m. against the Arkansas State Red Wolves, coached by former LSU coach John Brady, at the Tad Pad.

Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said he likes his team’s mindset at the onset of the season.

“I like the way they approached the preseason, they compete day in and day out, we have not had to coach effort,” Kennedsy said. “I can tell that it is game week though, they’re starting to get antsy, we want to play someone else,”

On Saturday, Newton made the Arkansas defense look like children, posting 328 yards of offense and four touchdowns on an embattled Razorbacks defense.
