This season has been tough for Ole Miss women’s basketball. The Lady Rebels (12-14, 2-10 SEC) are trying to end an eight-game skid that started on Jan. 19 and continued this past week with losses to Alabama and Mississippi State.

It will have been over a month since their last win when they take on No. 10 Tennessee in the final home game of the regular season Sunday. After routing No. 7 Kentucky 91-54 on Monday, Tennessee followed with a 57-41 win at Mississippi State on Thursday night.

In desperate need of a win, the Ole Miss Women’s basketball team hoped to find one against struggling Alabama, but the Lady Crimson Tide (11-14; 1-10 SEC) ended up defeating the Lady Rebels (12-13; 2-10 SEC) 52-47.

“I was very disappointed in how we started the game,” Head Coach Renee Ladner said. “I commend Alabama. They played good basketball.”
It was a tale of two halves for Ole Miss. The Rebels looked sluggish at the beginning, having trouble getting going.

Coming off two tough road losses at No. 7 Kentucky and Florida this past week, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-12, 2-8 SEC) returns home and hosts Alabama (10-14, 0-10 SEC) tonight. 

Coming off two tough road losses at No. 7 Kentucky and Florida this past week, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-12, 2-8 SEC) returns home and hosts Alabama (10-14, 0-10 SEC) tonight.

In their first meeting this season, the Lady Rebels won 69-55 in Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss had their best offensive performance of the season, shooting a season-best 66.7 percent from the field. The Lady Rebels have lost the six games since and look to snap that losing streak and get back to their winning ways.

After having what would best be described as a disappointing week with home losses to Mississippi State and Georgia, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-8, 2-5 SEC) looks to turn things around starting this Thursday when the team travels to South Carolina (15-5, 4-3) tonight.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Twice midway through the second half, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team cut No. 9 Miami’s lead to under five points, but the Hurricanes used a late run to pull away, taking a 76-48 win over the Rebels Saturday night.

With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 6-2 while No. 9 Miami improved to 8-1 and won its 29 consecutive game at home. The Rebels held the Hurricanes to below their season scoring average of 86.2 points per game.

The Ole Miss Lady Rebels (5-1) stretched their winning streak to four games with an 83-52 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-5) Tuesday. It was the Lady Rebels’ first home game since returning from the holiday road trip this past week, which included wins over Southeast Missouri State and Massachusetts.

AMHERST, Mass. – Nikki Byrd led four players in double figures as the Ole Miss women’s basketball team won its third straight game, 72-67, at UMass Saturday afternoon. 

AMHERST, Mass. – Nikki Byrd led four players in double figures as the Ole Miss women’s basketball team won its third straight game, 72-67, at UMass Saturday afternoon. 

With the win, Ole Miss improved to 4-1 overall, while fell to UMass 1-4.

The win gave Ole Miss its third 4-1 start over the last three seasons.

It also pushed the Rebels’ winning streak to three games, the longest since the 2009-10 season when Ole Miss won five straight from January 6 – January 24.

With the win Ole Miss improved to 3-1 while Southeast Missouri State fell to 0-4. Ole Miss improved to 3-1 overall for the third consecutive season.

The Ole Miss women’s basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 54-45 win over South Alabama Friday afternoon. It was a poor shooting performance from both teams.

However, the Rebels dominated on the boards, grabbing 58 total rebounds. The Rebels also outscored South Alabama 23-9 on second-chance points. The Ole Miss also forced 17 turnovers, including 10 steals.

Coming off a loss on their first road trip of the season at Lamar Tuesday Night, the Ole Miss Lady Rebels (1-1) return home and will quickly turn their attention to South Alabama (2-0) for today’s afternoon matchup.

“South Alabama is a very good basketball team,” Ladner said. “(They are) very well coached, love to run motion offense, love man-to-man defense and they like to run.”

The 2011-12 women’s basketball season is officially underway as official practice for the team has started.

Teams can start practice 40 days before their first game and are only allowed 30 practices in those 40 days.

“We are anxiously awaiting the opening of the new season.  We’ve got a bunch of young players that are talented to go with our upperclassmen that really like to play hard and play fast,” head coach Renee Ladner said.

After leading the majority of the game, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team saw No. 24/RV Georgia take the lead with 9:55 left to play as the Bulldogs defeated the Rebels 61-56 Sunday afternoon.

After leading the majority of the game, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team saw No. 24/RV Georgia take the lead with 9:55 left to play as the Bulldogs defeated the Rebels 61-56 Sunday afternoon.

Ole Miss led from the 8:00 minute mark in the first half until Georgia went ahead with 9:55 left in the game.  The Rebels cut the Bulldogs’ lead to two, 47-45, with 7:47 to play but couldn’t retake the lead.

With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 10-14 overall (3-9 SEC) while No. 24/RV Georgia improved to 19-6 overall (9-3 SEC).

While the rest of us were eating turkey and visiting family, the Lady Rebels were busy over the Thanksgiving holiday playing in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu. Ole Miss (5-2) finished third in the tournament after defeating Gonzaga and Illinois but falling to Hawaii.

The Ole Miss women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of season 70-72 to the Arizona Wildcats Thursday night at the Tad Smith Coliseum.

The Ole Miss women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of season 70-72 to the Arizona Wildcats Thursday night at the Tad Smith Coliseum.

The Lady Rebels had a lead in the second half until Arizona scored a three pointer with 4:24 that tied the score at 64-64.  

“I think we’re going to say we let this one get away,” said Ole Miss coach Renee Ladner.

Regardless of the loss, Ladner said she was proud of the way her team performed against a talented Arizona squad.

As football season mercifully winds down and with much of the Ole Miss fan base grasping onto what little hope is left, basketball season is about to begin.

Both the women’s and men’s teams play their exhibition matches this week in Oxford with the women playing West Georgia on Thursday and the men facing Delta State on Friday.
