Ole Miss held its second 5:30 am practice of spring this past Thursday morning, during which the Rebel offense had arguably its best day.
For most of the spring, the defense under defensive coordinator Dave Wommack has consistently dominated the offense in team drills. That was not the case on Thursday, as the offense installed more of the playbook and used it to their advantage.

Powe originally signed a letter of intent to play for the Rebels in 2005, but he was denied eligibility for a couple of years by the NCAA. Finally, in 2008, Powe got word that he was cleared and his career in the SEC began.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Eli Manning is elite, for sure. A king of comebacks, too. And far, far more than Peyton’s little brother now.

They say the college football season never really ends. When the games are over and a champion is crowned, coaching searches and recruiting take center stage in college football news. However, recruiting and the way it is currently handled by all parties involved makes it completely irrelevant.

First off, player ratings make no sense and do not really capture a recruit’s true potential. If you don’t believe me, let’s look at past Ole Miss players as incoming recruits. Some of the Rebs’ best players were not highly rated or recruited.

Austin Miller: What are your overall thoughts on this year’s Ole Miss recruiting class?

Keith Niebuhr: It’s always difficult when you have a new staff come in and have that kind of turnover. They lost some crucial time from when it was known that Nutt wasn’t going to be back, to the time the new staff was put into place. This group did a good job, first and foremost, of securing the recruits they already had. That’s the key. So you’re almost starting from scratch. Then they went out and have gotten a few more guys. It’s not huge in numbers, but it’s high in quality. And now they land Channing Ward, which was huge. That’s a big prize in Mississippi, so that’s significant.

I’m often guilty of “outing” others for scandalous transgressions and abuses of their power, but every now and then I catch myself writing patriotic, uplifting stories (just to throw you off).

You remember Sept. 11, 2001 and where you were that day, correct?

Hall of Fame NFL receiver and current analyst for the NFL Network Michael Irvin appeared on the most recent cover of Out magazine (a popular gay men’s lifestyle magazine) and was featured in an article about his late brother, who was gay.

Many people remember Irvin from his time with the Dallas Cowboys, but Irvin has found himself in the headlines for plenty of other reasons throughout the years.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- After months of public nastiness and private negotiations, of court filings and rulings, of players and owners squabbling over more than $9 billion a year, NFL fans finally saw the handshake and heard the words they awaited: "Football's back."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith both used that phrase while standing shoulder-to-shoulder Monday, announcing their agreement on a 10-year deal to end the lockout that began in March.

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (AP) -- The country's most popular sport is in limbo for at least another day.

NFL owners overwhelmingly approved a tentative agreement Thursday to end the lockout, provided players re-establish their union and sign off on the deal. The players, however, didn't vote, saying they had not seen the full proposal.

Each Friday, The Daily Mississippian’s Bennett Hipp will rank the 12 SEC teams by position as part of an eight-week series. Next week: Running backs.

1. Arkansas: The Razorbacks lost star tight end D.J. Williams to the draft, but return the best receiving corp in the Southeastern Conference. The senior trio of Joe Adams, Jarius Wright, and Greg Childs will give junior quarterback Tyler Wilson plenty of options through the air. Childs hauled in 46 catches for 659 yards and six touchdowns before injuring his knee late last season. Adams and Wright combined for over 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns. Junior tight end Chris Gragg has the task of filling the large shoes left behind by Williams.
