It’s been a wild and crazy ride for Ole Miss senior forward Murphy Holloway the past few years. He has ventured between South Carolina and Mississippi multiple times, but now, his focus is all on one thing: getting the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament.

Holloway was named the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year his senior year of high school and decided to come to Ole Miss for the 2008-09 season. He led the team in rebounding that year as a freshman and the following year as a sophomore.

Back in October at Ole Miss basketball Media Day, head coach Andy Kennedy said this year’s squad may be the most experienced team he’s coached in Oxford. The Rebels are led by three seniors in forward Murphy Holloway, forward Reginald Buckner and guard Nick Williams.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Nick Williams scored a career-high 22 points and led Ole Miss a 68-54 win over Auburn in Thursday’s first round of the SEC Tournament at New Orleans Arena.

Williams, whose previous career-high was 21, was 9-of-14 shooting and drained four 3-pointers. Murphy Holloway added 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Rebels (19-12), who have won four straight and might be able to make a case for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament should they upset Tennessee in their second-round game Friday night.

The 10th-seeded Tigers are likely to see their season come to an end this weekend in New Orleans, barring a miracle run in the SEC Tournament, while the 7th-seeded Rebels continue to fight to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament next week.

The Ole Miss men’s basketball team travels to Arkansas to face the Razorbacks tonight in Fayetteville in hopes of sweeping the season series and extending their winning streak against Arkansas to five games. The Rebels have won seven of their last eight meetings against the Razorbacks, including the last three in Fayetteville.

When the Rebels (14-8, 4-4 SEC) travel to Starkville tonight to take on the 18th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs (18-5, 5-3), they will try to return to Oxford with their first season sweep of their in-state rival since 1998. 

The two teams last played on Jan. 18 with Ole Miss pulling the upset 75-68 in Oxford. In that win, junior forward Reginald Buckner scored a career-high 19 points to go along with 15 rebounds, and three other players scored in double figures for the Rebels.

Just 48 hours after losing a heartbreaker to Florida, the Ole Miss men’s basketball team returned to the court to host the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Rebels (14-7, 4-3 SEC) led for much of the game, but the Gamecocks (9-11, 1-5 SEC) refused to go away, knocking down shot after shot to stay in the game.

It wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t easy, but the Ole Miss men’s basketball team got back in the win column with a 50-48 win over SMU (8-6) Tuesday night in Oxford. The Rebels snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 10-4 on the season as they enter Southeastern Conference play Saturday.

 However, the Rebels (9-3) lost 86-82 at Southern Miss this past Saturday, followed by a 68-56 loss to Middle Tennessee State in Southaven Wednesday night.

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Murphy Holloway scored the game winner with three seconds left and Ole Miss won its matchup of the Big East/SEC Challenge over DePaul, 70-68, on Thursday night.

Holloway grabbed the ball from Blue Demons forward Cleveland Melvin and dashed downcourt for the score.

Holloway had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Rebels (6-1), who led by 17 points early in the second half. It was Holloway’s third double-double of the season and the 17th of his career.

Ole Miss scored the first 10 points and stormed pass Grambling State 69-39 Monday night, but the Rebels did so without one of their starters. Before the game, it was announced that junior forward Reginald Buckner had been suspended indefinitely for “conduct detrimental to the team.” In his place, sophomore Demarco Cox got the start finished with six points and six rebounds in 18 minutes.

For the offensive-minded basketball fan, Friday’s season opener between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks was not an instant classic.

Nevertheless, the Rebels (1-0) started the season with a 60-38 win over the Warhawks (0-1). The 38 point loss was the lowest scoring output allowed under head coach Andy Kennedy.

The Ole Miss men’s basketball team got a huge pickup last spring when head coach Andy Kennedy received word that Irmo, S.C., native Murphy Holloway was interested in returning to Oxford to finish his last two years of eligibility. Kennedy, who prides himself on not being surprised, said the news of Holloway was something to be excited about.

As expected, the Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday afternoon that junior forward Murphy Holloway has been granted immediate eligibility to compete with the Ole Miss basketball team this season.

The SEC’s clearance and acceptance of the transfer rule waiver comes on the heels of the NCAA’s clearance on Oct. 14.

Holloway returns to Ole Miss, where he played his first two collegiate seasons after transferring to South Carolina. The Irmo, S.C., native sat out last season, paying his own way as a walk-on.

The NCAA cleared junior forward Murphy Holloway Friday to play for the Ole Miss men’s basketball team.

Ole Miss petitioned the NCAA and was granted a waiver of the year-in residence requirement for transfers. Ole Miss must now await for clearance from the SEC, which is expected at any time.

Kennedy excited to get started Friday

Ole Miss men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy met with the media Thursday afternoon, as the team prepares to begin the season with its first official practice Friday. 

The Rebels lost their two top scorers in Chris Warren and Zach Graham, but Kennedy is excited with what he has seen from his team this offseason and looking forward to seeing where this team can go in 2011-12.

With expectations of winning the Southeastern Conference West and getting a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001, the Rebels had a disappointing year that ended in a loss to the University of California in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament.

After spending much of his life at Ole Miss, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance David Wells is retiring.

After spending much of his life at Ole Miss, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance David Wells is retiring.

Wells is a graduate of Ole Miss and has been in the administrative office for the past 30 years. He started off as the director of academic support and took his current office when the University opened its compliance office in 1994.

Wells oversees the actions of the compliance office, which makes sure the University is abiding by the rules and regulations of the NCAA and the SEC.

It was announced today that former Middle Tennessee assistant coach Al Pinkins has accepted that same post for the Rebels, while Bill Armstrong has been elevated from Ole Miss’ coordinator of operations to assistant coach. In addition, former Rebel forward Murphy Holloway has transferred back to Ole Miss after a year at South Carolina.

Chris Warren is set up to have another great year for the Rebels. Warren, barring injury, should be the Rebels’ greatest threat on the floor coming off of two preseason All-SEC selections.

“It’s just a family situation,” Holloway said. “I have a little girl, and I have to take responsibility as a father to go home and take care of her. My mom needs help, so that’s what I’m going to do.”
