The previous statement is entirely fictitious. Admittedly embellished, as well, yet it embodies the ideology of some of those who were strongly opposed to James Meredith enrolling in classes at The University of Mississippi.
Meredith had to overcome more than Ross Barnett’s personal rejection to the university. He had to overcome more than the then-chancellor’s comment that his denial of admittance was not contingent on him “being a Negro.”

The University’s latest proposal involves oyster contamination clean up and detection. This is a two-step process, in which they will apply eco-friendly compounds to contaminated oysters and then examine them under a high-resolution mass imaging facility.

Each game will be seven innings.

After arguably the offense’s best practice of the spring this past Thursday, the defense ruled the day as the offense took a step back in Tuesday’s practice. Head coach Hugh Freeze went on to say the defense’s emotion and energy matched that of the offense from last week, which he said is to be expected, but he was disappointed the offense didn’t compete harder than it did Tuesday.

The group in charge of the ratings is the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE).

Ole Miss has always been a university that promotes free speech on campus. Its new rating comes from the changing of a technical term in order to bring clarity of policies to students and faculty alike.

There’s a reason it was initially unknown to the public; when people realize their liberty is being stripped away they stand up for themselves. Without grassroots efforts by citizens and activists, SOPA would have become law. Fortunately, it did not.

While exams were finishing up and students began going home for winter break, the Ole Miss men’s basketball team was preparing for the long-awaited debut from freshman transfer guard Jelan Kendrick.

After enrolling at the University of Memphis out of Wheeler High School in Atlanta, Kendrick decided to transfer after his first semester and ultimately decided to attend Ole Miss. In doing so, Kendrick became the first McDonald’s All-American in Ole Miss basketball history.

That’s what senior defensive end Kentrell Lockett said on Monday about his performance against Auburn, which head coach Houston Nutt called “his best game of the year.”

In Saturday’s 41-23 loss to the Tigers, Lockett recorded six tackles and one tackle for a loss, and he recovered a fumble. He also showed an explosion and burst that both the coaches and he hadn’t seen yet this year, as he missed most of this past season with a torn ACL.

The Ole Miss–Texas license plate is a joint effort by the Rebel Club of Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston Rebel Club and San Antonio and Austin Ole Miss Club.
MyPlates, the specialty plate’s vendor for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, has assisted the foundation with marketing.
Rebecca Bertrand, vice president of Houston Rebel Club, said the plates will showcase Ole Miss.

The overcrowding in bars, restaurants and hotels during the University of Mississippi football season has the Oxford Fire Department concerned about the city breaking fire codes.
The OFD serves approximately 19,000 Oxford residents and 14,000 Ole Miss students on campus, according to Oxford’s website.
Fire Chief Mike Hill said the department has been conducting occupancy load checks on various locations.

Graduate students from the University of Mississippi will take to the seas this spring to study the impact of the BP oil spill.

“The UM-led consortium, which includes scientists from 14 research institutions, will examine the effects of hydrocarbons on a deep-water ecosystem,” said Ray Highsmith, lead investigator on the study.

As recent waves of hairy, crazy ants invade areas of the Southeast, including Mississippi, Florida, Texas and Louisiana, many wonder if Oxford could be next on their hit list.

The ants have been spotted in Jackson and Hancock County in Mississippi, according to a paper published by Joe MacGown, a scientific illustrator and curatorial assistant at the Mississippi State Entomological Museum at Mississippi State University.

According to local law enforcement officials, the number of arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol has increased in both Oxford and Starkville.

Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin stated that 296 DUI arrests have occurred so far in 2011, in contrast to 274 arrests in 2010, an 8 percent increase.
