Sophomore Barry Brunetti rushes for 47 yards in the second quarter to help set up a junior Bryson Rose field goal before half time. Brunetti replaced junior Zack Stoudt at quarterback late in the first quarter. Brunetti had 15 carries for 74 along with  5 completions for 30 yards. The Rebels fall to 2-9 (0-7) with the 52-3 loss to LSU.

In a game that looked to be a huge mismatch in favor of LSU, the top-ranked Tigers (11-0, 7-0 SEC) dominated the Ole Miss Rebels (2-9, 0-7 SEC) from start to finish. The final count was 52-3, the largest margin of victory in the 100-year history of the Ole Miss-LSU rivalry and the Rebels’ worst loss since the 1974 season.

“They are a really good football team,” head coach Houston Nutt said. “But we helped them. We have to get ready for that last one (against Mississippi State). That’s the bottom line.”

On Saturday night, every Ole Miss senior will be playing their last game inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, and they will do so against the No. 1 LSU Tigers. It will also mark head coach Houston Nutt’s last home game in Oxford, before the Rebels close out the 2011 season next week at Mississippi State. For now, all Nutt is worried about is LSU.

1. Auburn (11- 0 overall, 7-0 SEC, 1st last week): The Tigers went “all in” with their decision to play embattled quarterback Cam Newton in a Southeastern Conference West clinching win over Georgia. Auburn’s decision makes sense: If the allegations of Newton accepting extra benefits are true, then the Tigers are in big trouble whether Newton played or not.

1. Alabama: The announcement that defending Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram will miss Alabama’s season opener because of injury would put most coaching staffs into one big conniption fit. Not the Crimson Tide staff, though. Sophomore running back Trent Richardson has been lauded as one of the top tailbacks in the country, and maybe even better than Ingram.

1. Arkansas: Let’s not stop at the Southeastern Conference; Ryan Mallett could be the best quarterback in all of college football (Washington’s Jake Locker begs to differ).
