I should make clear at the beginning of this column that I am not vegan, and I’ve never had any interest in being vegan until I moved in with a family who is vegan. Well, the wife/mother of the family is vegan; her husband identifies himself as “plant strong.” All the same, I have been thrust into the world of veganism for the summer, and to be honest, I’m loving every minute of it. I haven’t had tofu yet (that I’m aware of), but I have had some fabulous food.

I’ve recently rediscovered the beauty and value of a “family meal.”

They’ve always been a part of my life.  I grew up here in the South, and my grandmother cooked supper every night for my mom and I for around 14 years.

When I’m not in Oxford, I’m often asked, “Where do you go to college?”

This program for graduate students lasts from the summer until May of the next year.

The leadership faculty at Ole Miss began researching principal preparation programs in 2006 and worked with experts from Harvard, Vanderbilt and Stanford to develop our program.

They also worked with principals and superintendents throughout the state of Mississippi.

Stepping into the Hughes’ Oxford residence, it is obvious that this family is full of die-hard Ole Miss fans.

I have seen some t-shirts that describe Ole Miss as “the Harvard of the South.” Well, we aren’t; not even close. And I’m glad.
