After disappointing road trips to Southeastern Conference newcomers Texas A&M and Missouri, the Lady Rebels (6-5, 0-2 SEC) look for their first conference win when they take on in-state rival Mississippi State (4-7, 0-2) tonight at 7 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.

The Ole Miss volleyball team will play a 29-match schedule this fall that includes the Rebels’ annual home tournament with the Magnolia Invitational and a 10-game home slate against Southeastern Conference foes, head coach Joe Getzin announced on Thursday.

“The guys were very excited to have their first dual match, especially the freshmen on the team,” Ole Miss head coach Billy Chadwick said. “There is a lot of excitement with this team, and I think the fans saw that.”

The Ole Miss men’s tennis team, ranked No. 23 in the nation, got its 2012 season off to a good start with 7-0 sweep of Southern Miss yesterday at the Gillom Sports Center.

SUNDAY: KENTUCKY 3, OLE MISS 2

The Ole Miss volleyball team (9-17, 5-13 SEC) suffered another crushing five-set loss to a ranked opponent at the Gillom Sports Center Sunday afternoon. The No. 18 Kentucky Wildcats (24-4, 15-2 SEC) defeated the Rebels 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 33-31, 15-17).

The match was back-and-forth, with Ole Miss rallying to take the third and fourth sets to send it into a fifth set, including a fourth set that saw 64 points played.

The Ole Miss volleyball team will host their first home games of the 2011 season at the Gillom Sports Center this upcoming weekend in the Magnolia Classic. Tournament opponents include Arkansas-Little Rock (3-4), Central Arkansas (1-5) and Northwestern (5-0). The Rebels (1-4) are looking to bounce back from another challenging weekend at the Crowne Plaza Classic at the University of Louisville, in Kentucky.

On senior day, the No. 25 Ole Miss men’s tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 4 Tennessee Sunday at the Gillom Sports Center.

On senior day, the No. 25 Ole Miss men’s tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 4 Tennessee Sunday at the Gillom Sports Center.

In the match, the Rebels were without 2009 Southeastern Conference Tournament MVP Kalle Norberg, who was dealing with a foot injury that he suffered Friday against Georgia.
