Ole Miss pays $5,000 for field-storming

 
The Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday that Ole Miss was handed a $5,000 fine for violating the league’s policy on access to competition areas when Rebel fans ran on the field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium following a 41-27 win over Mississippi State in this past Saturday’s Egg Bowl.

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork said he knew the fine would be handed down, and they were prepared to handle the situation inside the stadium Saturday night.

Rebels capture bowl berth with Egg Bowl win

 
For the first time since 2009, Ole Miss will be playing in a bowl game. The bowl berth was even sweeter this season because the Rebels (6-6, 3-5 Southeastern Conference) captured it on the last game of the year against in-state rival No. 25 Mississippi State (8-4, 4-4 SEC), with a 41-24 win Saturday night in the annual Egg Bowl.

It's time to step up to our role as 'big brother' again

We are a family at Ole Miss. Some Mississippians would argue that the state of Mississippi is like a family too. In the wake of arguments between Ole Miss and Mississippi State fans on social media outlets about anything imaginable, I thought about some comparisons between the state universities and a family.

In just his fourth game as the coach of the Rebels and coming off of a 23-17 home loss to Vanderbilt, Nutt secured his first signature win for Ole Miss with a 31-30 victory over No. 4 Florida. A Kentrell Lockett-blocked extra point proved to be the difference on the scoreboard and Marcus Temple stopped Tim Tebow on a fourth-down run to seal the victory. The win became even more impressive as the Gators went undefeated the rest of the season and won the BCS National Championship.

Anyway, in a year when Ole Miss was once again whooped on the football field by in-state rival Mississippi State, men's tennis coach Billy Chadwick did his part to avenge the red and blue. With a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs Thursday night in Jackson, Chadwick's No. 17 Rebels have now defeated MSU 26 consecutive times -- no that's not a misprint.

Defense same old self in Egg Bowl defeat

In the week leading up to the 107th meeting between Ole Miss and Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, Rebel coaches said that after last year’s loss in Starkville they fully realized the importance of the rivalry game. They spoke of an Ole Miss team that was focused, energized and looking to end the season with momentum going into 2011.

Unfortunately for the Rebels, that emotion and passion was
not enough to overcome the on-field deficiencies that have plagued Ole Miss all season.

In what could have been a positive end to a disappointing season, Ole Miss fell 31-23 to in-state rival No. 25 Mississippi State Saturday night in the Egg Bowl at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Tennessee game tells story of Rebels season

 

On the first play from scrimmage Saturday morning in Knoxville, it was easy to get the feeling that it just wasn’t going to be Ole Miss’ day. On that first play, Tennessee true freshman quarterback Tyler Bray fired a slant to receiver Justin Hunter. The ball hit Ole Miss linebacker Jonathan Cornell right in the hands, but he could not reel it in. Hunter did, and raced 80 yards for the opening score.

Death of MSU player puts rivalry in perspective

There are many reasons that I absolutely love college football – the school pride, the passion, the fact that option football is still prevalent in the college ranks and of course the rivalries. Here in Mississippi, we have a pretty damn good rivalry in the Egg Bowl. Each November, Ole Miss and Mississippi square off in a battle royale that determines bragging rights that are exercised everywhere from fifth-grade playgrounds to the water coolers of high-brow Jackson law firms.

The 2010 Ole Miss football season was not supposed to be this way. There have been the unexpected losses  – Jacksonville State and Vanderbilt – and the devastating personnel blows – the season-ending injury of star defensive end Kentrell Lockett and the removal of offensive lineman Rishaw Johnson from the team.

Soccer falls to Mississippi State 2-1 on the road

The Ole Miss soccer team fell to Mississippi State, 2-1, Friday night to end the regular season.
