When tragedies like the killing of Trayvon Martin happen, they always seem to bring up a very unsettling sentiment I’ve noticed, which I can only describe as a sort of indifference to injustice.

West Memphis was generally gripped by fear as a result of these murders, and the need to explain the situation created an almost irrational fear of occultism.

The re-trial of David Jackson Williams, which was originally scheduled for February, has been changed to July 31.

Williams was convicted in 2007 for the murder of Ole Miss student Demetria Bracey.

In November 2010, the Mississippi Supreme Court overturned the guilty verdict and Williams was released on a $100,000 bond. The Supreme Court overturned the verdict because the defense was barred from using evidence and jury instruction that supported an assisted suicide cause of death.

The murdered former Libyan dictator deserves an United Nations investigation into his death.

Last week, Muammar Gaddafi was shot to death near his hometown of Sirte, Libya. The circumstances regarding his death, however, are still unclear. An investigation into his death needs to begin immediately, and the person or people responsible must be punished adequately.

Gaddafi was found alive in a sewer system and subsequently arrested. Once in custody, he somehow suffered a gunshot wound to the head that killed him. Video has been released of rebel fighters posing with Gaddafi’s dead body in celebration.

The Internet was abuzz earlier this week over a photo taken of Lindsay Lohan’s teeth. They were, in a word, disgusting.

They were not the teeth of a 25-year-old fading Hollywood starlet, but the teeth of a meth-addicted “Deliverance” extra. While the teeth photo seen around the Internet was troubling, what was even more troubling and less-widely publicized was that LiLo had once again been charged with violating her probation and could face up to 18 months in jail this time around.

As Associated Student Body attorney general Evan Kirkham stood on the top step of the Lyceum for the third time to make an announcement about the results of Miss Ole Miss, the two remaining campaigns stood by in anticipation, ready for the whole process to be over.

The moment Kirckham announced Mary Alex Street was the victor, the air turned to a mixture of excitement from Street’s campaign, disappointment from Emily Monsour’s side and an overall sigh of relief that everything was finally over.

When most people think of studying abroad, they think of traveling to new and exciting places, experiencing a different culture and taking serious advantage of lower legal drinking ages. For the vast majority of college students who participate in study abroad programs, they accomplish exactly that and get an educational experience out of the process. However, Amanda Knox had quite a different experience.

In the very last few weeks, some news attracted my attention. The news items were all related by the fact that they were all verdicts after complicated and cumbersome trials.

In the case of Casey Anthony, she was found not guilty of the murder of her daughter, almost three years after the death of Caylee Anthony.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Almost as soon as it began, former baseball star Roger Clemens' perjury trial ended Thursday - in a mistrial the judge blamed on prosecutors and said a "first-year law student" would have known to avoid.

U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton left the question of a new trial up in the air. But he called a halt to the trial under way after prosecutors showed jurors evidence that he had ruled out - videotaped revelations that a teammate had said he'd told his wife Clemens confessed to using a drug.

Adolf Hitler once said, “I do not see why man should not be as cruel as nature.” This should come as no surprise to any elementary school educated person, considering the fact that he was the leader of one of the largest known genocides to ever take place.

Adolf Hitler once said, “I do not see why man should not be as cruel as nature.” This should come as no surprise to any elementary school educated person, considering the fact that he was the leader of one of the largest known genocides to ever take place.

Many leaders throughout history have followed the idea Hitler produced in this quote. However, this past week, I became exposed to possibly one of the cruelest things any human could do.
