We are living in weird times.

A time of the largest CEO bonuses on record in the midst of one of the deepest recessions to hit this country.

A time when a president who campaigned on change, reform and honesty capitulates to ultra-conservatives who hijack our democracy.

A time when Herman Cain compares himself to black walnut ice cream, saying that if you just give him a taste, you’ll want more.

Weird times indeed.

In a little more than three months, people in Mississippi and across the country will pause to remember one of the worst days in American history: Sept. 11, 2001. But one day in late May, two Ole Miss journalism students, Lillian Askins and Ashley Barnett, had the opportunity to visit Ground Zero, to get a first-hand look at what some see as a symbol of America’s comeback from catastrophe.

It was party time at Ground Zero.

May 25 marked the fifth anniversary of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center.

There are challenges that face every student when he arrives at college.

For presidents of fraternities and sororities, the challenges are amplified beyond their course schedule — not only do they have to deal with the stress of being a full-time student, but there is the added pressure of managing a major organization, Coulter Ward, assistant dean of student affairs, said.

“These students are taking on the role of CEO for their organization, and it’s a difficult task,” Ward said.
