Wayne Dorsey’s first season in an Ole Miss uniform didn’t go the way he planned.

Ole Miss sputtered to a 4-8 record while Dorsey struggled to make the transition from junior college football to the Southeastern Conference.

With the bad memories of the 2010 season behind him, Dorsey has improved by leaps and bounds in the offseason and is poised for a breakout this season.

For the second day in a row, head coach Houston Nutt was pleased with his team’s performance on the practice fields.

“We had another good one,” Nutt said of Wednesday’s practice. “We have had two really good back-to-back days. I was excited about them pushing through it today, when it got a little hotter than it has the last two days.”

Nutt said that he is happy to see some of the older players pushing the freshmen.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Four Ole Miss Rebels were recognized Thursday with their selection to the 2011 All-Southeastern Conference Coaches’ Preseason Football Team, including first-team honoree Bradley Sowell.

A senior from Hernando, Miss., Sowell was chosen as an offensive lineman on the preseason first team, while fellow tackle Bobby Massie, of Lynchburg, Va., was named to the third team. Senior defensive end Kentrell Lockett, of Hahnville, La., was selected to the coaches’ second unit along with junior punter Tyler Campbell of Little Rock, Ark.

Ole Miss’ Bryson Rose is among 30 players selected to the watch list for the 20th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, released Thursday by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

Sept. 3 cannot come fast enough for Matt Hall. The 6’10” junior from Russellville, Ark., was forced to sit on the sidelines last year after transferring from Arkansas after the 2009 season.

Hall played in 11 games for the Razorbacks after redshirting the 2008 season, but felt that Ole Miss would be a better fit for him.

Bradley Sowell had his best year as a member of the Ole Miss football team this past fall, but it was not good enough for the Rebels’ starting left tackle.

Bradley Sowell had his best year as a member of the Ole Miss football team this past fall, but it was not good enough for the Rebels’ starting left tackle.

Ole Miss struggled to a 4-8 season and once again lost the Egg Bowl to in-state rival Mississippi State.

After back-to-back nine-win seasons and a pair of Cotton Bowl victories, the Rebels were left at home while every other team in the Southeastern Conference (besides Vanderbilt) made it to the postseason.
