Each Friday, The Daily Mississippian’s Bennett Hipp will rank the 12 SEC teams by position as part of an eight-week series. Next week: Running backs.

1. Arkansas: The Razorbacks lost star tight end D.J. Williams to the draft, but return the best receiving corp in the Southeastern Conference. The senior trio of Joe Adams, Jarius Wright, and Greg Childs will give junior quarterback Tyler Wilson plenty of options through the air. Childs hauled in 46 catches for 659 yards and six touchdowns before injuring his knee late last season. Adams and Wright combined for over 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns. Junior tight end Chris Gragg has the task of filling the large shoes left behind by Williams.

With college football only a couple months away, it’s time to take an early look at the Ole Miss football team. Each Thursday, The Daily Mississippian’s Bennett Hipp will break down Ole Miss position-by-position as part of an eight-week series. Next week: Offensive line

At the kicker position, Ole Miss returns last year’s starter in junior Bryson Rose, as well as backup kicker Andrew Ritter who is also a junior.

Rose impressed in 2010, as he made 16 of the 18 field goals he attempted for an 88.9 percent field goal percentage. That field-goal accuracy tied him for ninth nationally and put him first in the Southeastern Conference. Rose also made 43 of the 44 PAT’s that attempted on the season.

It seems like there is a stigma among Rebel fans that anything less than a nine win season is a failure.

1. GEORGIA: The Georgia Bulldogs will return a heck of an offensive line – all five starters to be exact – including left tackle Clint Boling, who was second-team All-SEC in 2009. The rest of the offensive line is a veteran group that has the responsibility to keep a first year starter at QB, Aaron Murray, upright.

If you have had any exposure to sports news lately, you’ve certainly heard about the changes going on in college football. Hopefully, this is just the start of a total realignment that is to come.

So far, Colorado has moved to the Pac-10 and Nebraska has joined the Big 12. Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will likely join Colorado in forming a 16-team super-conference out West.

1. South Carolina

The Gamecocks boasted the No. 2 pass defense in the Southeastern Conference last year, but the unit should be tops in the SEC in 2010. Former blue-chip recruit Stephon Gilmore lived up to the hype his true-freshman season, and will soon be a household name for college football fans.
