1. LSU (12-0, 8-0 SEC, 1st last week): LSU all but locked up a spot in the BCS National Championship with a 41-17 trouncing of Arkansas, the Tigers’ third win over a top-three team this season. In all, LSU has beat seven top-25 teams by an average margin of victory of more than 20 points. Despite trailing 14-0 early in the second quarter, the Tigers outgained the Razorbacks 494-254, including 286-47 on the ground. Sophomore defensive back Tyrann Mathieu was the player of the game, tying the game on an electrifying 92-yard punt return for a touchdown, forcing two fumbles and recovering one of the them. LSU looks to keep its perfect season intact when they play Georgia in Saturday’s SEC Championship.

1. Have to stop the run

Auburn loves to run the football, ranking 35th in the country and fourth in the Southeastern Conference with over 183 rushing yards per game. Sophomore running back Michael Dyer is second in the conference in carries, rushing the ball 159 times already this season (Almost 20 carries per game). Between Dyer, the speedy Onterio McCalleb, and electric freshman Tre Mason, the Tigers have plenty of options on the ground. Arkansas was successful running the ball on Ole Miss last week when they went into three and four wide sets that forced the Rebels to put extra defensive backs on the field and spreading the field. The Tigers certainly will attempt to do the same thing, and it could be a long day if Ole Miss hasn’t made an adjustment to fix this, particularly if freshman quarterback Kiehl Frazier is a big part of the Auburn offense.

“That’s a complete game for us,” Ole Miss head coach Matt Mott said. “That’s 90 minutes we defended very well, we scored three, I think, really good goals. That’s the kind of performance we’ve been wanting.”

Some people are calling what happened at Toomer’s Corner this past week an extension of the rivalry between Alabama and Auburn — a one-up-manship, if you will.

I do not agree — true fans, those who don’t align team allegiance with acts of mean and cowardly vandalism, would never do what Harvey Updyke allegedly did. It’s beyond reprehensible.

It’s rather ironic that it is the visiting Auburn Tigers coming into tonight’s game off a win.

It’s rather ironic that it is the visiting Auburn Tigers coming into tonight’s game off a win.

The Tigers defeated Mississippi State 65-62 Saturday in Auburn, while the Rebels lost on the road at Alabama, stopping their win streak at three games.

But irony aside, the Rebels should be able to get back to their winning ways this evening.

It’s no secret that the Southeastern Conference West is largely a joke this season.
