I very rarely see any in theaters because pretty much all modern horror films forsake storytelling and suspense for blood, gore and mindless jump scares every couple minutes.

I want to discuss my breathing habit with you today.
It’s OK to admit it if you are still too proud to meditate — I was not long ago. “Give me one good reason to sit cross-legged for half an hour of my busy day,” I contested. “What can I gain by sitting still?”
Studies into meditative habits have revealed that participants show an increase in the “relaxing” alpha waves produced by the brain and report decreased feelings of depression and anxiety.

Due to increased enrollment, the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College is expanding to accommodate students. The Institutions of Higher Learning has approved the plans for the college to double its square footage.

“The expansion is a response to the growth of the honors college,” said honors college associate dean John Samonds. “The growth has been phenomenal, and space is getting more dear to students as far as study and public space and space for socializing.”

It has been about four months since the tragic car accident involving Sam Clayton Kelly, Walker Kelly and Mason Wilbanks.
Since their deaths, a number of things have happened to make sure the three boys are not forgotten.

“Any time a parent experiences a loss like this, one of the main concerns is making sure that people always remember their son,” said Sam Clayton’s father, Sam Kelly.

For some students at the University of Mississippi, Union Unplugged is the face of National Pan-Hellenic Council Greeks.

The event, which usually happens every Tuesday, has become a showcase for traditionally black sororities and fraternities. The energetic step routines always attract a crowd of students to the front of the Student Union every week.

Jerrum, a 20-year-old liberal arts undecided major, arrived at the police station with his attorney, Kevin Frye, at approximately 1:45 p.m., in response to the University Police Department’s charge to turn himself in.

More than three months ago, Kappa Alpha Order lost three pledges in a car accident. Now, the fraternity is encouraging everyone to give blood Tuesday in memory of Sam Clayton Kelly, Mason Wilbanks and Walker Kelly.

“Giving blood saves three lives, and with that being the same number of boys we lost, let’s put names and faces to the people they are saving,” sophomore KA member Matt McDonald said.

Over a thousand women representing eight different sorority pledge classes danced Tuesday night in the thirteenth annual Theta Encore.
This year, Pi Beta Phi stole the show.
Theta Encore, a dance competition between Panhellenic’s fall pledge classes, is hosted each year by the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
Known as one of the largest philanthropy events on the Ole Miss campus, Theta Encore benefits Theta’s national philanthropy Court Appointed Special Advocates and the Scarlet Lawrence Akins Foundation.

For the second time within a span of a month, the University of Mississippi is mourning.

Following the death of graduate student Kevser Ermin, three more young lives were taken from the community.

Sam Clayton Kelly, Mason Wilbanks and Walker Kelly died in a single-car accident just north of Jackson, heading back to a university they knew existed for years, but had just gotten to know more intimately within the past three months as freshmen.

The collection’s name is derived from the two best friends who founded it: Emma Mahon and Jackie Graham. While they were both in college, they saw a need for stylish, affordable clothing.

For six months, the University of Mississippi fraternity Kappa Alpha has focused on helping to rebuild Smithville and other towns in Mississippi devastated by tornadoes.  

Members of the fraternity drove to Smithville on Wednesday to present the mayor and the town with a check for $6,680 to help continue the rebuilding process. 

“It all transpired roughly three weeks ago when they contacted me and let me know they wanted to help the town out,” Smithville Mayor Gregg Kennedy said.

Governor Haley Barbour was welcomed back to the Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics at the University of Mississippi by an audience full of students, professors, members of the Oxford community and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon freshmen class.
Charles Mitchell, assistant dean of the Meek School of Journalism and New Media, interviewed Barbour for over an hour, discussing topics from Barbour’s thoughts about the media to his opinions on politics and government in Mississippi.

The Internal Revenue Service has revoked the non-profit status of some organizations in Oxford and the University of Mississippi for failing to file required tax returns. 

Zeta Phi Beta and Alpha Kappa Alpha sororities and Omega Psi Phi fraternity, along with the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda were included among 35 local organizations that recently lost non-profit status.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Ole Miss track and field athlete Barnabas Kirui and University of Georgia track and field athlete has been named the 2010-11 Brad Davis Southeastern Conference Community Service Leader of the Year, alongside Bridget Lyons of the University of Georgia, commissioner Mike Slive announced Tuesday.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Ole Miss track and field athlete Barnabas Kirui and University of Georgia track and field athlete has been named the 2010-11 Brad Davis Southeastern Conference Community Service Leader of the Year, alongside Bridget Lyons of the University of Georgia, commissioner Mike Slive announced Tuesday.

The two were chosen by a committee of faculty athletics representatives from SEC universities. Each will receive a $6,000 post-graduate scholarship, provided by the SEC.

The Lyric Theater has become Oxford’s premier music venue and a staple of the Square.

The Lyric reopened its doors after a renovation during the summer of 2008. Since then, it has hosted several nationally known artists such as The Black Crowes, MGMT, Modest Mouse, Wilco, Umphrey’s McGee and Bassnectar.

Although the venue holds many of the town’s big-name concerts, the Lyric has also provided a space for organizations to hold fundraisers and charity events.
