Caroline Bartley

Feel free to leave messages and condolences for friends and family of Caroline Bartley and her parents.

Ole Miss biology sophomore Caroline Bartley and her parents have been confirmed dead after a plane crash south of road 4111 in Prentiss County Sunday, July 8, according to the Daily Journal.

Prentiss County EMA Director Ralph Lauderdale told the Daily Journal a thunderstorm in the area during the time of the flight may have caused the plane to crash.

Lauderdale said the family of three and their dogs were traveling from their vacation home in Andrews, N.C., to Oxford before the plane crashed.

Dean of Students Sparky Reardon said it is especially painful when the university loses a student.

“On a campus where people are so close to one another and there is such a feeling of family, we are all pained when we lose a member of our community,” Reardon said. "I know that those who are close to Caroline are hurting, and, on behalf of Ole Miss, I want them to know that they have our prayers, thoughts and support."

Mechanical engineering junior Sadie Carillo was friends with Bartley since the first day of their freshman year and was shocked to hear about the loss of her friend.

“If you knew her, if you knew the amount of energy she brought to people, it’s just hard to believe that someone like that could not be here anymore,” Carillo said.

Bartley was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority at Ole Miss. Associate Director of Public Relations for Alpha Omicron Pi’s International Headquarters Rachel Boyson sent her condolences on behalf of the Alpha Omicron Pi Family:

“As an organization founded solely on the premise of friendship a loss of one of our members is always felt throughout all of our chapters across North America. Alpha Omicron Pi sends its deepest condolences to Caroline’s siblings, the entire Bartley family and to the sisters of the Nu Beta Chapter with which she devoted so much of her time.  In this time of tragedy, it is our hope that each of these ladies can find some comfort in the strong bonds of sisterhood within Alpha Omicron Pi."More details will be reported as they become available.
